Pretty-In-Pink Washcloth/Dishcloth Crochet Pattern

This simple dishcloth is perfect for beginners.  It’s worked in the Lemon Peel Stitch which consists of single and double crochets.  The lemon peel stitch is one of my favorite stitches as it is simple to do and creates a gorgeous texture and looks equally gorgeous on both sides.

I finished my washcloth with a very simple border (optional) worked with chain and slip stitches.

Skill: Easy
Supplies:
  • Yarn: Med. 4 Worsted Weight or Cotton Yarn (I used Peaches & Creme 100% Cotton Yarn in Pastel Pink)
  • Size I (5.5mm) Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
Abbreviations:
  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sts: stitches
  • hk = hook
  • sl-st = slip stitch
Notes:
  • The turning chain does not count a a stitch.
  • Gauge: Not important for this project.
  • Single crochet stitches are done above double crochet stitches; double crochet stitches are worked above single crochet stitches.
  • If you would like a smaller or larger washcloth, use a starting chain in a multiple of 2 + 1 (for turning chain).
  • My washcloth measures approx. 7 3/4″ x 7 3/4″ and 8 1/2″  x 8 1/2″ with optional border.
Instructions:

Chain 23 (or desired chains to achieve the size you would like for you washcloth).

Row 1:  sc in 2nd ch from hk, dc in the next ch {*sc in next ch, dc in next chain*} repeat from {* to *} across. Chain 1 and turn.

Row 2:  sc in 1st st (same st as ch 1 st), dc in next st {*sc in next ch, dc in next chain*} repeat from {* to *} across. Chain 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until washcloth measures square or desired size. (You can fasten off here & weave in your ends or continue below to finish with border).

Optional Border:

When you get to the end of your last row, chain 3 and sl-st in next st all the way across.  Fasten off and weave in ends to finish.
